Share Your Story: Moments of Lucidity in Dementia

Have you ever witnessed someone living with dementia suddenly speak clearly, recognize you, or show cognitive or other abilities you thought were permanently lost?

These sudden, unexpected returns of ability are known as Lucid Episodes. While they can be deeply meaningful, they are not yet fully understood.

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are conducting a secure, confidential study to gather these stories from family and professional caregivers, relatives, and friends. By sharing your story, you can help us to better understand these experiences and guide future research to better support both people living with dementia and the people who support them.

Who Can Participate?

  • Anyone 18 years or older.
  • Current or former professional or family caregivers, relatives, or friends of someone living with dementia.
  • Anyone who has observed at least one unexpected lucid episode in a person living with dementia.

What is Involved?

Participation is entirely voluntary and online. You will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire including sharing your story (takes approximately 2–5 minutes, depending on how much you choose to write).
